Narrative Short

A single mother’s everyday routine turns into a fight for her life when an aggressive encounter on the South Side of Chicago spirals out of control.
Overview:
This short film follows JaBria Spears, a hard-working waitress and single mother, as she races through the bustling streets of Chicago’s South Side to pick up her daughter from daycare. Exhausted but determined, JaBria’s path is interrupted when she crosses paths with a local crew hanging out on the block. What begins as unwanted attention from one of the guys quickly escalates into a tense and dangerous confrontation.
As JaBria attempts to brush off Devontae—a persistent and increasingly hostile member of the group—her personal boundaries are ignored and her safety is threatened. A phone call from her daughter’s daycare only heightens the urgency of her situation. When JaBria finally stands her ground, Devontae’s fragile ego erupts into violence with irreversible consequences.
This film is a raw, unflinching portrait of the everyday threats women—particularly Black women—face simply by existing in public spaces. Through JaBria’s story, we explore themes of misogyny, resilience, and the unseen toll of survival in marginalized communities.
